For This Purpose: Scripture, Prayer & Application

Scripture: 27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” John 12:27-28

Prayer: That we would give God the glory in all things, even when they are challenging or difficult, and trust that His purpose for us is greater than our own understanding.

Application: In this scripture, Jesus knows that “this hour” means certain death and suffering. Yet he trusts completely that God’s plan is perfect and will bring God glory. Where in your life are you asking God to save you, instead of trusting and leaning in?

Scripture: 13 Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:13-14

Prayer: That we would be willing to intentionally make decisions which appear difficult in the moment, in order to deepen our relationship with the Lord.

Application: Work to remove the word “should” from your vocabulary when it comes to following Jesus. Pick one thing that God has been nudging you to do, but you have not followed through on. You know in your heart what that is, and more importantly, God knows that you know. Take one simple step toward him and he will light the way.
